Product Introduction

OPGW Cable (Optical Ground Wire) is a dual-function overhead cable that combines fiber optic communication capabilities with traditional electrical grounding protection. Designed for high-voltage transmission lines, this composite cable features optical fibers embedded within a stranded aluminum-clad steel (ACS) or all-aluminum alloy (AAA) outer structure, providing both lightning protection and high-speed data transmission. With excellent mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, OPGW cables can withstand extreme weather conditions while maintaining stable signal transmission over long distances. The dielectric optical fibers ensure immunity to electromagnetic interference, making them ideal for power utility communications, SCADA systems, and smart grid applications. Available in various fiber counts (typically 12-144) and tensile strengths (up to 150kN), our OPGW cables meet international standards including IEC, IEEE, and TL/US standards. The seamless integration of power and communication functions reduces installation costs and tower loading, offering utilities a reliable solution for grid modernization and real-time monitoring.

Quality and Testing
There are different test series to assure the quality of GL FIBER' OPGW Cable:
∗ Routine test (inprocess testing according to internal quality plan)
∗ Factory acceptance test (FAT, witnessed by customer)
∗ Type test (only in case of a basic new design, repetition in exceptional cases)
∗ Factory acceptance test (FAT, witnessed by customer)

OPGW tests shall be in accordance with applicable standards or agreements between purchaser and manufacturer. As a general rule the tests will be performed according IEC 60794-4-10.However, if necessary tests can be done according to IEEE Std1138.
With more than 60 OPGW fiber cable designs successfully type-tested, GL FIBER has extensive experience in OPGW qualification. Additionally, our in-house laboratories certify that all cables are manufactured in compliance with the design specifications. GL FIBER' OPGW manufacturing plants are ISO 9001 and 14001 certified and the quality assurance systems are managed accordingly.
